Don't waste your time, money or health

I am blown away how inaccurate this test was. I tested my finished basement in August '18 in preparation of listing my house for sale. Figuring if I needed radon mitigation, better know and take care of it prior to listing my house on the market. This test showed results of 1.5pCi/L. WRONG! Had a professional test the radon level as part of a home inspection and my radon level is 40.6pCi/L!!!! The professional test and this First Alert test were both in the same exact location, same interior conditions and same test duration. Not sure if the First Alert test was faulty, or the "lab" they send it to a mess, but this test result was off by 2700%. Save yourself the time and hassle and have a professional test for radon, learn from my fail.

It Works and is Varifiable

We've actually used the First Alert radon test twice now. The first time was to get an initial radon amount and then a follow up test after we had someone come in and fit a radon mitigation system in the basement. The company that did the work followed up with their own lab test from another lab company to show how much the radon had come down. Because we wanted to confirm the results (or because we are either untrustiong or simply dubious) we got another First Alert test kit and did the post test again. The results were within .1% of the company's test so there was good verification. Incidentally The First time we tested we were showing 7.8 pcl and the second test, after mitigation, showed .7 pcl, so we were happy all around.

Never got results. If my test didn't work or whatever at least tell me. No reply, no nothing and I followed everything it said, FedEx said it made it there. Tried to find customer service and whatever and can't even get a hold of them. Last time I ever go with First Alert. Don't buy.

Kit works great BUT hard to read results

Bought 15 kits to teach a class on the importance of access to clean water.

Short story: Kits work, but are hard to read. Bacteria tests take a while (48 hours).

We had three samples of water:
1. Bottled Water (Control)
2. Unfiltered Tap Water
3. Runoff rain water

All 15 kits worked perfectly. The control had all the ideal expected results for being clean water.

The tap water was a bit high on the pH and it was rather hard.

The runoff rain water turn positive on the bacteria test, was hard, and the pH was way above normal. It was full of pesticides and tested positive for nitrates.

Each water sample was tested randomly four times. We had four results for each water sample in the end and they all matched.

In the end, the kids saw how even seemingly clean-looking water can be unsafe to drink.

Because of unclear instructions, we didn't have the date we collected air. They weren't able to test. Money paide plus $20+ for express.
Purchased it again. This time filled up everything correctly. They tested but stated that bag wasn't sealed. It was. Getting another kit thru local university.
Wasted too much on this particular test.
