I've purchased this microphone ten years ago, going on eleven years. I've used this through thick and thin. Incredible microphone to begin with when I first began my career in audio production. Quality is not bad at all but only how the recording is edited and mixed.

I've been recording from my college days when I turned my closet into a vocal booth. I didn't soundproof it but it was quite "soundproof" without the panels, foam and/or curtains. All I used was my clothes. It was enough and the quality was fine.

Ten years and 11 months later, I am still using it and I have no problem. I highly recommend this microphone for beginners. Go for it. It's a great mic at a reasonable price, it changed my life in the music/film industry!

As a podcaster, I could immediately tell the difference between the MXL 990 and my previous condenser mic. This one has such rich tones! It is sensitive, however, and the pop filter I bought with it really isn't filtering out my plosives. I have it pointed DOWN to reduce room noise and it works perfectly. I have it plugged into an audio interface before it goes into my laptop. Highly recommended, great mic for the price!

I work in radio and told my boss I spent 65$ on this 5 years ago. He couldn’t believe the quality! It’s an amazing mic...I have dropped it hit the wall with it and it still works like new! It’s 5 years old! I do voiceovers every day with it.

This little Monster packs a Big punch. It's the affordable version to the Neumann TLM-102.

This MXL 990 mic has a great, "Warm" tube amped sound on its recording. I used to Record countless Albums with my AKG Precision 120, but now, as of 2019, this is the Mic I've been recording my Sessions with, and Highly recommend it for any Professional Recording Studio, that just wants to add an additional Mic that clients may be familiar with.

Nice warm sound but high noise floor

I like this mic and for the money it meets my expectations. If putting in a mix with guitars and drums and other loud instruments the noise will be insignificant most likely. But for vocal tracking in a solo context, such as a podcast, the noise floor is pretty high. But this is a good mic to have in your toolbox when you need the sensitivity of a condenser mic with a cardioid pattern. Remember you need +48v Phantom Power. I use mine with an Art Tube MP StudioV3 tube preamp and that warms it even further. I did go and buy an Audio Technica higher end large condenser with half the noise rating for the solo vocal work.
