Nice looking razor. Received yesterday and the bottom of the box lid was torn. The razor is not damaged. I haven't used it yet because I'm on the fence of whether I should return it. The specs on Amazon says it's 6.38 ounces which is why I bought it. I like heft. I haven't weighed it but it is no way 6 ounces. I have a Rockwell 6C at 6.4 ounces and this feels about half the weight. I could guess between 3 maybe 4. If its near 5 ounces I would be surprised. The head has some heft and looks and feels very quality, when it narrows down to the handle it feels very light and imbalanced imo. The imitation Ivory is very nice looking but the resin is lighter than it could be. Again I have not tried it and it may be a very fine quality razor as it looks. I'm just disappointed about the Heft or lack of it. I'm concerned If I try it I won't be able to return.
I'm usually a straight-razor shaver, but some days I'm simply a bit pressed for time. I'm also far from being a morning person, so A double-edged razor is sometimes the best tool for the job.
I have the unfortunate combination of extremely thick stubble and ultra-sensitive skin, so I'm quite picky when it comes to shaving. As such, I have been going through several DE razors in search of the perfect shave. Easily beating out the Merkur 38 HD and the Parker 99R, the DE razors by Edwin Jagger are simply fantastic. Where the other two still had a bit of drag on my face, it really felt like there was no blade at all when using the EJ Chatsworth.
To be completely honest, I'm not sure what exactly makes this razor so much better than the other two on my face, but irritation, particularly on my neck, was non-existent with the Edwin Jagger. I have tried it with at least 5 different razor manufacturers including Derby and Feather, and every one seems to perform better in this razor for me.
As with all things shaving-related, your mileage may vary as all faces are different.
Please note that all Edwin Jagger razors use the same head, so if you don't want to spend the extra money on the Chatsworth's fancy handle, the DE89 will give you the exact same shave for less than half the cost. I simply purchased this one to match the handle on my badger brush.
High quality, well designed and a joy to use. This razor is superior to the newer double or triple edge razors. Once you use it you will not use anything else.
