Great portable radio, the airband rocks

First off, I own several portable radios of different brands and sizes that I have collected over the last 40 years. I recently ordered this and have to say its my new favorite. It has a great speaker that amplifies the all of the bands cleanly. The signals on LW/MW/SW bands pull in great but where this really shines at is the airband, it's simply amazing. On any given time day or night I can pull in air traffic 60 miles away in any direction from house. They come in clean and crisp almost like a FM signal. If you are considering one and only portable radio that can do it all, this would be my choice. For the record, I was not paid for this review nor do I work for Eton. I'm just a normal guy and radio enthusiast.

Eton Elite Executive failed after one day UPDATED August 18, 2019

I'm an avid shortwave listener with 1/2 dozen different radios. I wanted a portable with direct frequency entry, and the Eton Elite Executive looked like a good choice. Radio arrived quickly, and the package was in good shape. The receiver is quite sensitive, and all the front panel options worked as they should. However, after only one day of responsible, adult use, the knob used to select fast/slow/fine tuning steps quit working. I could clearly feel & hear the mechanical detent when the Knob is pushed wasn't clicking to select the tuning rate. Other than this mechanical failure the radio worked quite well. Two stars for the radio, but 5+ stars for Amazon and their great replacement / return policies and processes. Hopefully the replacement radio will not have any issues. If it does, I'll be sure to review.
UPDATE!: Replacement radio arrived as promised by Prime. New one works as advertised 100%. The tune speed select switch on the replacement "feels" a lot sturdier than the first radio. I'm quite happy with the selectivity and sensitivity on the ham bands and on the USAF GCS frequencies. Some other reviews on other sites complained about the Air Band sensitivity, but I'm quite happy with that as well. Over all update to 4 stars!

The new Eton Elite Executive AM FM LW Shortwave SSB AIR band portable radio is a Rock Star! I own the older Executive Satellit, and this new radio equals it in every aspect.

Features I like about this radio:
Stellar FM Reception.
Strong LW/MW Reception.
Shortwave SSB works like a champ.
AM Sync.
700 Presets. 100 Pages of 7. Each Page Can Be Custom Labeled.
Presets can be added in any band configuration.
RDS.
AC Adapter included, which also charges optional NiMH batteries.
Cool Gunmetal color, similar to C.Crane radios.
Bright and Easy to read Display.
Four Alarms.
Line In / Line Out
DX/Local Switch
External Antenna Input Jack.
Nice speaker audio.
AIR Band works great.
Squelch function is very useful.
Fast/Slow/ and Fine tuning.
Multiple Bandwidth Filters for AM/LW/SW SSB & AIR bands.

Features that could be added or improved on:
Change antenna placement.
Make the Leather Cover more functional, and protective.

Overall, this radio represents a great value to performance ratio. You are getting something very special.

This radio is for enthusiasts with some knowledge about sophisticated radios or who are willing to put some real time into figuring out how it functions. It may take some time to select and tune a frequency the first time. This radio has many strong points and is excellent value for the money. The star off is for difficult instructions and obscure functions not intuitively apparent from the button labels.
Additional gotchas include: 1 Badly documented Lo/Dx switch. In Lo the radio is quite deaf and the function is not shown on the display. 2 Sync function has only narrow bandwidth and frequently distorts. 3 A double press of buttons is often but not always required for the radio to recognize input. 4. Tone or Bass/Treble would improve FM listening.
Better documentation would help a lot as the sensitivity and sound quality is quite good for the size. It has many nice features formerly found only on much more expensive and larger radios.

Enough has already been written in reviews in various forums, hence no repetition . No radio can be better than this. Of course you can’t except to catch signal from moon or mars. It’s digital and the experience is just awesome. It’s ease of operation and the sensitivity in all bands is perfect. You just can’t expect and experience a performance better than this. The manual available at the Eton Website is perfect. Take a printout and enjoy your radio. Transport yourself to a new level of classic experience of listening to the ether. I know you will not be disappointed by investing in this little wonder called the Eton Executive , the best radio ever created on the face of the earth. I am really fortunate to get this on a deal. But even without any deal you should have this, if you love ethereal voice of the world from a tiny wonder machine.
