Durable phone that lasts a long time and takes a lot of abuse. I don't need a phone for more than, well, a phone, I have had my 7050 since I bought it 10 years ago and it was just starting to have issues - I needed a replacement to scrounge parts from so I bought this cheap, used replacement. Used phone was listed as:

Condition: Used - Good - Network: Sprint. Includes charger and battery. Cosmetic condition: AVERAGE (5-6 out of 10) with marks/scratches on the housing and/or screen from previous usage.

I would have expected at least a quick cursory cleaning from the seller before shipping it - there was a lot of makeup and other gunk all over it - could have easily been cleaned with little effort from the seller (Battcell)

If you are into the latest gizmos, this may not be for you, but some of us just want a dependable means of communication, something durable, and something we can touch and feel that has a solid, secure presence, and when we put it to our ear has loudness and clarity, doesn't garble, doesn't drop calls, fits the bill.

This phone does all this, and I would rate it as the best BASIC phone I have ever had. I am not much for all of the extended data features such as email (even though it has it), internet access (even though it has it), and I don't like typing messages with chicklet sized keys anyway (even though this phone will do it). I don't care much about games or most types of extended application services (even though it will do a lot of those as well).

This phone shows the best signal strength of any I have ever had, has the loudest and clearest call quality, has a great big handsfree speaker with an actual 'speaker' button so I don't have to fumble around figuring out how to use it. The 'rocker' key in the center is re-programmable so that you can customize its operation to almost any menu choice.

The feel of the phone is comfortable and non-slip. Some people have complained about the size, but it's not really much bigger (1/4" in height) than most other basic flip-phones I have owned (about five of them), and still fits nicely where all those did. It does weigh more, but to me the weight is comforting, not an annoyance.

I also do a lot of motorcycle touring, and I use GPS's all the time, so I subscribed to that service, picking the Garmin application. It operates very well and has the same features found on a lot of GPS's - it will speak the turns, find nearest food and gas, etc., although you probably don't want to watch it much on that small display.

The long talk and standby time is also helpful if you are on the road for a couple of days, with the extended battery I estimate it would last a week on standby if you didn't use it to much.

All in all, if you want a PHONE, I would recommend this one. I have also ordered my first Bluetooth device to go with this, I'll let you know how that turns out...

I just recently switched from AT&T to Sprint and I was looking for something similar to the Motorola V365 that I had grown so accustomed too. Unlike some, I like for my phones to have a bulky, solid design. I don't need a lot of nifty features. I just want a good, strong signal, and it needs to be LOUD.

Originally, I wanted something that looked similar to the Motorola ic502. Ya know, something with an industrialized look to it that could handle being dropped a few times without being too proned to scratches. Then I came across the Sanyo 7050. Being new to Sprint (they have exclusive rights to the brand), I wasn't familiar with Sanyo phones. After doing some researching online, I discovered that their phones are known for being durable, easy to use, and dependable. All in all, they have a great reputation with users as well as critics, so I decided to go with it.

Now, I've had some time to use it and I couldn't be happier. Perfect design, great button layout and size for those who have bigger fingers, and get this: it's actually user friendly. All the features I need are here. Bluetooth and web-browsing are standard, but for me, the GPS was a big selling point. EXCELLENT reception and yeah, it's also very loud (especially the on "speaker" mode). It feels good in the hand and the included belt-clip was a nice suprise and very impressive for a packaged accessory.

I'm extremely happy with the 7050. It fits my needs perfectly and I can see it being a big hit with outdoors enthusiasts as well as construction workers and military. I have no complaints and it gets a solid 10 from me.

Great Rugged Phone

Pros:

-excellent build quality, rugged construction
-excellent reception
-very good sound quality on earpiece, OK with speakerphone
-very long battery life
-crisp internal screen & very easy to read external display
-internal GPS works with free applications like Mobile Gmaps
-plays well with bluetooth devices
-great ergonomics, easy to hold, good tactile feedback from keypad.

Cons:

-No Camera (not that I care)
-No Music Player (again, not what I use a phone for)
-No high speed EV-DO data connection (this is a strange oversight for a business/professional phone)

Bottom Line: best phone I have owned so far (had a cell since 1995). If you want a camera and/or music player, this is not for you, but if you want a really solid phone for making calls, excellent GPS features (for a phone), and only need to use the data connection for basic things like google maps, gmail, and checking the news and stock quotes, then this phone is great.
