K&M makes great microphone stands. Only one or two other manufacturers come close. However, I've purchased a few of these at different times. Most recently, the seller sent a different K&M model that has a similar description. The item advertised here is a model 21090. The model I received was the less expensive 21075. The 21075 is less heavy duty and includes a plastic wingnut type clutch. Make sure you receive the correct model.

Worth the money

I’ve been a professional musician for 35 years. I have purchased MANY mic stands over the years. Usually, I get the cheapest ones I can find($15-20). They last for a few months and then the knobs strip out and they become worthless. I decided to try a different approach the last time and bought the best that I could find. These were considerably more expensive, but they have worked perfectly for me for 2 years, and are still in perfect condition. They get used for 3-4 gigs each week. I have to say that in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. I highly recommend these stands!

Update: Another year and a half has gone by, and they’re still PERFECT!

After trying some cheaper booms and being disappointed, I finally decided to spend a little more and get a quality stand. The stand is easy to assemble and adjust. The difference in quality is undeniable. It is solid and will not tip over even at full boom. I had a big problem with cheaper booms tipping over. I actually dented one of my mics like this.... Very frustrating. All the adjustment knobs are ridged and tighten very well. It doesn't start to sag after a few minutes like others. I give this stand 5 stars. Buy this stand once or buy cheaper stands and keep replacing them. Please like my review if it helped. Thanks

Being tired of having a mic stand malfunction at gigs.. 3 in one year, I indulged and purchased what i thought was the best Amazon had to offer.
I came quickly packed in an Amazon box. Inside the box was the original packaging for this stand. This packaging was torn up and looked as though it had been opened and returned. No packaging inside the box ... just the stand pieces. No plastic to protect it from getting dinged up. Normally this wouldn’t bother me with a $20 stand.. but this is not that.
The stand seems in good working order. Seems sturdy. Heavy.
The only problem I see as a potential is that the bar bar (pic above) to tighten the clutch on the boom is plastic. Plastic?! Really? On a nearly $100 stand?! Ok.
Seems a very bad decision to attempt to save weight or money on such a highly used part ... but I suppose we’ll see.
Wish my local music store had more options than the crap they do. Hopefully this one will last.

The most solid portable stage mic stand I've found

I've had a number of mic stands over the years, and my favorite has been an incredibly solid and study stand with the name "Abus" on its base. It also has "AKG" stamped on the upper clamp. I've searched in vain for more of these, but could never turn up another anywhere. Turns out the things are made by K&M, and I got one just recently on Amazon. I do a lot of outdoor performing in a variety of circumstances, from solid stages to grassy fields. This K&M stand walks the line between weight and solidity- it is heavier to lug around than a lot of the lighter stands, but it's so much sturdier, and holds heavier condenser mics and iPads without tipping over or drooping with its boom extended. The tripod base is well constructed and has a nice wide footprint. I've not found a better portable mic stand- it's strong, rugged, and stands up reliably to heavy use. It's a great thing!
