Made in Japan, this harp is an equal to the Hohner 1896 Marine Band in every aspect. Its wood-comb a little bit slimmer. Its brass reed-plates are thicker ( 1.1 mm vs. 0.9 mm ). Its stainless steel cover-plates are similarly shaped but in a stronger design with a support point at middle ( better than Hohner ), and look very decent with classic decorations. It has screws instead of nails ( better than Hohner ).
Airtightness, reed-responsiveness, tuning . . . all are as excellent as a Hohner's , no bad reeds, no mute holes, no issues at all . Volume and tone are almost the same as a Hohner's . . . ( Playing the same song with each of them, I can barely tell the difference ! ) .
Tombo makes a complete set of 14 pieces for this model in Major keys : LF, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, F#, HG . I expect Tombo should make this style also in Minor keys ( harmonic and natural ).
Had to wait quite a while for a delivery from Japan by SAL ( I received a C and a G after 22 days from Japan FAN Store, and a B after 14 days from JAPAN BRAND HGC, and still expect 6 more in other keys to come from other stores . . . _ after the first order , I could not help but buy more of this Tombo style in my favorite keys , even though I 've got quite a lot of Hohner 1896's already . At sale price about $ 23.00 , this Tombo costs just about 50% a Hohner, but offers the same qualities & values . . .) . It is worth waiting . Highly recommended . . .
