In short, the M600 Souverän is a great pen. Unfortunately, I have a couple issues with THIS particular pen as purchased from Amazon Global.
First, this is the first pen I've received directly from Amazon that came without any type of gift box. Given standard packaging for the M600 includes both the gift box and an interior faux leather "penvelope," the absence of the standard packaging should have been disclosed in the listing (it is not) - something I will be taking up with Amazon CS. Second, on the back of the barrel, there is one stripe that is different from all the others. I don't know if this is an artifact of extruding the barrels in all the black/red pens, or if I just got an unlucky batch. As this is my only striated Pelikan, I do not have any others with which to compare it. Nonetheless, given the oddity of having one stripe that is not like the others contrasted with the consistency of the QC in well-established German firms, I have to wonder if this is a factory second.
Overall, a great pen, though the small issues above keep it from being a great deal. If I were rating the M600 Souverän, I'd give it five stars. If I were rating this particular experience, I'd give it three.
PROS:
- Well-deisgned pen: proper size, typically solid German ergonomics, posts well
- Beautiful, elegant aesthetics
- Nuanced integration of ink-level window
- Pelikan quality
CONS:
- Substandard packaging (skinny skeleton pen box - no gift box, no penvelope)
- There was a second striper on the grassy knoll
