I think it's a fine pen. People have indicated that they don't like the ink, but if that's the case, one can get a cartridge converter so one could use the pen with bottled ink, which is available with all sorts of characteristics. There's an art supply store near me that stocks hundreds of bottles of different kinds of ink. So I don't see that as a valid criticism of the pen. I, personally, prefer a fast-drying ink, because I tend to smudge whatever I've just written and don't want to have to flap the paper around, blow on it, use a blotter, etc. The one criticism of the pen itself was that it was "pudgy"; but I find the weight, heft, balance, and girth of the pen suits my hand perfectly. Perhaps one with unusually small hands wouldn't be so happy with that pen, but I'm a fat old geezer with rheumatoid arthritis, and I like a pen I can feel in my hand and control. Takes me back to first grade, writing on cheap paper that has bits of wood chunks in it using pencils about as thick as my wrist. Or early percussion classes, using fat drumsticks. Thing is, there's a logic to all that: fatter things are easier to control. Well, I like a "pudgy pen", and I think this one writes beautifully, a great value.

... outstanding value at the price I paid and it's easily worth at least twice as much

An outstanding value at the price I paid and it's easily worth at least twice as much. Fit and finish are very good. Machine work was excellent: no burrs or shavings in the barrel threads or the nib. The nib is perfect. It obviously went through finishing after being manufactured.
I started it the normal way: water behind the feed and draw off the tines with a towel until hood is wet. No solvents or oil fed with the water. Cheap pens made in a filthy factory and which undergo minimal finishing usually have grease and dust in the feed and stuck to the hood which hinder ink flow. Not the Parker....very clean. I inserted the cartridge and I had ink flow on the first touch to the towel. Excellent start and unarguably a high-quality pen. I've had no problems starting it when I uncap it to write.
Ink flow with the supplied cartridge was consistent and moderate. I did not notice any variance in the flow like I would with a cheap pen. (A cheap pen usually requires disassembling, cleaning and tuning the nib/feed.) Like all fountain pens, the nib style and feed will work great with some inks, blot with some and skip with others. That's the consequence for not using the recommended ink. Knowledgeable pen aficionados accept this and work with a pen to make it an excellent writer.
You could spend $900 on a high-quality fountain pen--the materials will be ornate, perhaps rarer more durable metals will be used--but functionally it won't be better because it's not possible to be better than perfect.

Not Gunmetal as advertised, it is Dark Espresso

I just received the pen and have been writing with it for a few days. I like it so far, with a couple of exceptions. One is that the cap seems loose and the nib seems to bang against the cap. It is very different than my other Parker IM pens. The second item is that this was sold under the color as being Gun Metal, which I was very interested in, however it is a Parker Dark Espresso fountain pen. If you look on Parker's website, they do not offer a Gun Metal. This pen looks exactly like the Dark Espresso with one exception, the color of the grip is chrome/silver and on Parker's website it is black. I think the seller changed out the nib on the pen before selling it, because in the box there wasn't the usual card from Parker describing the pen. This explains why the cap and nib don't seem to fit like my other pens.

because there was no big disappointment. It is a beautiful pen

Firstly, I just now got the pen. All the other reviewers I think are correct in their ratings for their experience, because there was no big disappointment. It is a beautiful pen, the ink flows easily, a few skips, but then I just got it. My Pilot Metropolitan writes about the same line and writes better. The beauty of the Parker is really impressive. But that most important thing I wanted what I consider a FINE line just isnt there so I am disappointed . Anyone please comment on a FP that writes as fine or finer then a 0.5 mm pencil.

Great Value

This is a great pen for the price. Ink flows freely. I also have a Cross extra-fine nib fountain pen, which is my favorite to write with, but I do like the Parker because the ink cartridges are about twice the size of the Cross cartridges and I don't have to change the Parker ink as often. My only complaint is that I wish this pen were available in a little finer nib. It is heftier than my Cross and nicely balanced. Overall, I would certainly recommend it.
