I purchased this whistle for travel since I did not want to risk damage or loss to my handmade bamboo penny whistle that I already own. I needed something sturdy with a fairly descent tone, and have found this instrument to be sufficient.
This whistle is more sensitive and less forgiving than my bamboo whistle. If you do not fully cover a hole, or you blow a bit too hard on the low notes, you will know immediately as this whistle will make an annoying squawk. Because of its sensitivity, it is helping me learn better breath control, and keeps me more conscious of my finger pressure.
The holes in this whistle are pea sized or smaller which makes it much easier for people like me, with small hands and fingers, to play. This might make it an excellent choice for a child's whistle as their small fingers would be able to easily cover the holes.
My whistle is sightly out of tune on the D note, but it is not too bad, and still works well as a practice and learning whistle (my bamboo whistle is for performances).
This whistle is very soft; much quieter than my other. Because of this, it might work well for someone who has to practice indoors since it won't be too loud so as to disturb others in the house/building.
I found this whistle to be a little "breathy", perhaps because of the build of the mouth piece. While my bamboo whistle produces a good strong note with only a little air sound, this one produces a softer note and the air sound is louder and more noticeable.
This whistle is surprisingly light. This is my first metal whistle and I expected something with a bit more weight, but I was not disappointed by this. Lighter weight means your hands won't tire of holding it to your mouth.
The appearance of the whistle is cheap in my opinion. the mouthpiece is an obnoxious green made of a light plastic. The brass piece isn't brought to a high shine or nice finish, and the instructions in the box do not include instrument care and cleaning. The shaft has an annoying sticker stuck to it, but this can probably be easily removed with some common solvents. Since I purchased this for travel and practice however, I am not too bothered by the appearance.
Overall this is a descent little whistle for a beginner, for travel, and for practice.

Good first wind instrument for experienced musician.

If you have a good ear, you can learn this fairly quick. I'm a musician, but had not tried a wind instrument until I bought this. It is a little off-tune at higher octaves. Seems to be a limitation of the design. With precision finger placement over the holes you can almost hit half-notes that this whistle is not meant to play (maybe the more precision designs might do better), but again it is not perfect sounding. However if you have a song that is within its melody range, it will do fine. I've tried it along with a band and it seems to go well. Of course the biggest limitation is that it can only play in the key of D.

good sounding whistle, little more tricky to play than fist expected, but that's on me more than the whistle i think. the only thing i'm not a fan of is that is came with an odd sort of coating on it, probably to protect from water damage, but after just a few days the coating started turning green around where i put my fingers. I scrapped it of and the brass is fine underneath though, also i think it sounds better too. just a little extra step is all.

The whistles are as expected, easy for small children to use but not to produce good tone quality. The problem with my order is that I ordered 4 whistles and received three whistles and a box with only the music page and no whistle. I would contact the company to address but can only find the option to return through Amazon.

Honestly, it's just like the whistle you get your kid at a gift shop. It's great to just learn notes, but as one should expect, it's not the professional's penny whistle. I'm giving it 4 stars because like I said, it served its purpose to just teach me notes.
