Kodak Tri-X 400 is my go-to film for all-purpose photographic needs. I am a professional photographer with about 12 years of working experience, as a reference, and I personally shoot on a Nikon FG camera when I don't shoot digitally.
This film is a professional-grade medium. It supports pushing and pulling when processing in the darkroom, allowing for more advanced control over highlights and shadows along with control over the zone system. This film is also relatively easy to manage after archiving, as its plastic surface behind the emulsion seems sturdier than other films I have used from Kodak.
That being said, if you need less apparent grain on your images, try using any of Kodaks ASA 100 or 200 films. The grain size is somewhat larger than usual compared to other asa 400 films out there, but it's not a deal breaker for my personal use. I'm taking in microns, so it's not extremely obvious, but you'll know when looking after development.
Buy one or two rolls and try it out, I highly recommend buying only a couple at first to make sure it's what you like before buying bulk orders. This way you don't spend 50 dollars at once.
