About the Artist

Award-winning artist Jim Shore grew up in rural South Carolina, the son of artistic parents who instilled a love of the traditional images and values of American folk art. He cites his inspiration as his grandmother, a master quilter who taught him an appreciation for the craft, and his collection of quilts dating back over 150 years. Jim studied engineering and received a degree in business, not art. He supported his young family as an engineer, honing his skills as a sculptor and painter in his spare time, before eventually founding his own business, Designs Americana, to market his designs.

In 2000, Jim entered a licensing agreement with Enesco to create Heartwood Creek by Jim Shore, the line of seasonal and everyday decorative accessories that has brought him world-wide fame. While working with Enesco Jim perfected his unique style, combining elements of folk art and a vibrant color palette applied to traditional themes

I purchased this figurine about a week ago and could not imagine being more satisfied with it. Jim Shore and Disney have found a wonderful way to recreate a memorable scene from Disney’s, “Beauty and the Beast” into a tangible item. The majority of people, if not all, who have watched this film will remember the enchanting scene when Belle first dances with the Beast. Growing up, I loved watching this movie; so to have this magical scene captured well is, as the French would say, “très fantastique.”
Upon opening the container, I had reservations concerning the color consistency, how well it could support itself on my bookcase, and the overall durability. The color quality is in fact true to the image online, as well as the size, but the paint job could have been done a little better; there are a few small spots that bleed into each other. The detailing on the Beast’s suit and Belle’s dress are spot on and tactfully enthusiastic. Before I set it up, I was careful to place it on a large flat service to ensure that it could support itself. As far as its durability, I have not tested that by throwing it on the floor, but it seems to be made out of quality material and arrived in pristine condition without cracks or broken pieces. The liveliness and quality of Belle and the other characters is very realistic and remained genuine to the 1991 Disney adaption of “La Belle et La Bête.”
A figurine is not for play, but for adding a chic look to a room. This has been placed on my center bookcase; located in the living room, so that everyone has an optimal view of it when coming and going. I do not recommend this for young children or for playing with and so should not be gifted to someone as such; it would more than likely break or become damaged extremely early on. The intention behind this piece is to be more of a showpiece to be enjoyed on display in a spot for others to view it. This product is a perfect piece for a fan of the story written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756, a Disney fanatic, or someone who appreciated this moment in the film.
