Almost all 60Hz AC hum is caused by ground loops that act like radio antennae (loop antenna). There can be many causes of hum / noise in a piece of equipment:
* Bad equipment
* RFI / EMI (radio frequency or electromagnetic interference)
* Bad line power
* Guitar-cord related ground loop (most common in guitar / microphone / amp situations)

This item works dandy if you are experiencing a ground loop problem. There is a very easy way to test for this too: if you have a guitar amplifier that has unwanted hum / noise, simply unplug the guitar cord. If you're having a cord-related ground loop problem, the hum will vanish. Plug the cord back in, hum returns.

That problem is exactly what this is for. Plug you guitar or microphone cord into the "in" jack, plug another into the "out" jack and to your amplifier, and this cleans it up well. An inexpensive and efficient solution.

If your noise problem is caused by one of the other factors, that's not what this is designed to fix. You may need the more expensive Hum X or similar device to handle a socket-based ground loop or noise problem, or if it's a problem with electrical noise or RMI/EMI problems, you may need a pricey power conditioner.

3-prong amplifiers: A way to test for socket-based ground loop issues is to use a prong adapter-- one of those orange or gray cheap things that converts a 3 prong plug into a 2 prong. This is for TESTING only as continued us can cause problems (there's a reason your amp has 3 prongs). Plug the amp into the adapter, plug the adapter into your electric socket, and if the hum vanishes a device like the Hum X will fix the problem. Avoid the temptation to just keep using the cheap prong adapter. It removes the grounding of the amp, and is a good way to burn out an amp or even cause a line fire. Of course if your amp only has 2 prongs in the first place, this doesn't apply at all.

Bottom line: if the hum is caused by issues between the guitar and amplifier-- such is very easy to check by simply removing the guitar cord-- and this product will fix that. Note that if you have a serious issue with your guitar electronics or pickups, that may require repairing. But in my case this relatively inexpensive solution nearly zeroed my hum issues. Very pleased that it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you-- at least you'll have nice clean guitar line flow and you can look for other causes for hum.

This is that rare true silver-bullet miracle product that actually works.

I have driven myself crazy trying to eliminate static noise from my new home studio setup. My problem was with an M-Audio M-Track 2X2M hooked up to an iMac. My monitors (JBL 305s) had very noticeable static that corresponded with moving the mouse, when the hard drive would operate, etc. I tried everything, including all new cables (started with unbalanced, then moved to balanced, and there was zero difference). I was about ready to call it quits until I saw this product in some online forums. I knew it would work for eliminating hum (guitar inputs, etc), but I was skeptical about my static noise. Well, upon inserting this unit into my equation, I thought maybe I hadn't turned on my monitors. Oh but they were on, and outputting exactly NO sound as they should when there is no music being played! The monitors now work great with my setup, and I really feel like I'm back in business. This product ended a very frustrating month of experimenting and failing. I would have paid 5 times what I did for the product, seriously. I detect no degradation of the crispness of sound quality (I was afraid it might soften the sounds, but nope, sounds perfect).

In summary, this is an amazing device that saved my sanity - highly recommended!

NO MORE COMPUTER NOISE IN MY MONITORS!!!

Okay, I have been battling computer noise through my monitors forever! I watched endless YouTube videos on how to correct this problem, everything from removing the ground pin from your plugs to open grounds on circuitry. I ran new electrical lines with grounds verified and was still running into horrible noise coming through my monitors. I bought this product and plugged it in and NO CHANGE!!! I was super bugged... I reread the reviews and sorted thru posted photos of the product installed. THEN I NOTICED someone posted a photo using a Yamaha MG82cx in the background. As luck would have it, I had this older mixing board in storage because I tried running everything thru it a while back but still had horrible monitor noise. THEN LOW AND BEHOLD I RAN CABLES THRU THE YAMAHA TO THE PYLE AND POOF!!!!!! NO MORE MONITOR NOISE!!! I must stress that the Pyle did not work alone, but when run thru this older mixing console it eliminated the computer noise to 99%... there is still the faintest of hmm, and I mean the faintest, but OMG, I finally cracked the code to eliminating my monitor noise!!! Yay me ;-)
