Best headphones I have ever tried period. Sound quality is well balanced with excellent tight bass. Although Shure claims to have included sub-woofer like drivers, clearly these are tuned for listening to music and not movies.
The headphones come with nozzle inserts that allow biasing between neutral, high and low treble tonal settings. The neutral setting gives the impression that high-end frequencies are cut off. The bright or high treble setting makes the music crisp at the expense slightly reduced bass response.
The bass is tight, and beats many larger and more expensive headphones. Compared to Bowers & Wilkins or Sony High Res headphones, the soundstage of SE 846 seems much wider.
Even with the high treble bias setting, the headphones seem less responsive to frequencies exceeding 16Khz.
