Ideal for studio recording and live on stage, the Rode M5-MP Matched Pair Cardioid Condenser Microphones is equally at home on a range of acoustic instruments, choirs, or anywhere you would employ a small diaphragm condenser microphone, either individually or as a stereo array. Designed and made in Australia, the M5 is a compact 1/2" cardioid condenser microphone with low noise and a full frequency response. A result of many years’ experience building the award-winning NT5 microphone, RODE has succeeded in making a high-quality ‘pencil’ style permanently polarized condenser that will impress even the most demanding of artists and engineers. This matched pair has been carefully selected to ensure a variation of no more than 1dB sensitivity between the microphones. A premium foiled certificate is supplied to verify the authenticity of the pair. The M5 is finished with RODE’s proprietary ceramic coating which offers a sleek matt black finish, and is supplied with WS5 windshields and RM5 stand mounts.

Buzzing on every chord

I'm a classical violinist and I bought these mics to record several pieces after my friend raved about them. Unfortunately all of my recordings are now ruined because of constant buzzing on every single chord I played. Whenever I was playing a lyrical melody there was absolutely no problem and it sounded clear and beautiful but as soon as I had to play a chord, the buzzing would come back.
I initially thought it was something to do with the Mic placement or the gain being too high, but after two hours of adjustments it still sounded the same, no matter what. I'm afraid I will have to return these.

I've owned a few RODE microphones over the years and have appreciated that RODE has been a pioneer in manufacturing microphones that home studio enthusiasts can afford while still bringing quality products that continue to be manufactured in Australia rather than the dime a dozen mic factories of the far east.

The M5's are a great value at $200/pair, sound very neutral, slightly warm, without the shrill high end that is apparent in many inexpensive microphones. I'm using them primarily to mic acoustic guitar in stereo and they sound phenomenal! Very clear and detailed, don't require too much mic preamp gain, and give a very honest and articulate representation of the source.

These are a pair of microphones you can keep in your studio for a very long time, and with the 10 Year Warranty provided by RODE, it's peace of mind to know the company will stand behind their product.

At this price range, these mics are a steal. I was torn between getting a pair of SE8's or NT5's. I eventually just bought these because I heard they sound pretty darn good. On acoustic guitar they sound amazing if placed right. When mine came in one of the mics had the little gold Rode plate missing off of it which really pissed me off even though the mic works fine. I doubt this will happen to anyone else so its not a big deal, just made me mad.

Got these for drum overheads. Snare, toms and kick already mic'd with mounted Shures. Hooked these up tonight and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of sound they produced. Used an overhead template for EQ and it was amazing how well the hit-hat was picked up as well as the overall sound. For the price, I don't think you could beat these little condenser wonders.
