I bought this controller for the same reason as everyone else - to have the retro feel white playing with emulators but the convenience of modern wireless via bluetooth. I read a lot of reviews here and watched some unboxing videos on YouTube, and I must say that I expected more. Everyone said, "feels just like the original!" and I really disagree. I could tell within 5 seconds of picking this up it wasn't like the original. I mean it's not bad, but it's not "just like the original". Even my wife, who played NES as a kid commented on the loose-ness of the DPAD. That is my biggest complaint. The DPAD doesn't feel very tight and slides a round a little. This is not good for precision control games, like Tetris, or Pacman for example. It didn't make other games unplayable, but it certainly didn't feel great. The A,B,X,Y buttons I can't complain about. Those are fine. Start/Select feel slightly more raised than the original, but it doesn't bother me. It's just noticeable.
Note: I am using this with the SNES9x and NES.emu emulators on the FireTV stick. If you are using these emulators, be sure to change the settings inside each of them. There are two settings sections when you're configuring the controller: "Set In-Game Actions" and "Set Gamepad Keys". I recommend going into "Set In-Game Actions" and just disabling everything. The reason for this is by default the "Start" button on the controller maps to the "Menu" key in the OS. So whenever I'd hit "Start" to play a game, it would just bring up the emulator's menu screen. I couldn't figure out for the longest time what was wrong, because in the "Set Gamepad Keys" the "Start" button was mapped. Once I figured that out, the controller mapping was great and I was playing games no problem.
To summarize, this is an "OK" controller, in my opinion. If it was $20 or less, I might give a different rating. But IMO, at $30+ this is a premium controller so I expected premium build quality. The packaging is all excellent and it has the appearance of a solid product, but that DPAD has me really wanting more. Fix that I would probably up my rating.
