This item was labeled as used in good condition. I found absolutely no flaws in this item. My Son was super excited to receive it and complete his collection. This vendor was top notch!

At first you needed it to play co-op on Wii u and Switch but since more recent updates you no longer need the amiibo for co-op. The main appeal of this amiibo is so you can play as a "custom knight". The difference being that instead of collecting treasure and using it to buy upgrades in the game, collecting treasure as a custom knight is like gaining experience points and after gaining a certain amount you level up and gain a relic or something for shovel knight and another color pallet choice. There are some extra relics that can only be obtained as a custom knight. Max level is 50 so you won't get to max level until near the end of the game. Also there is a person in town that will give you the option to summon a shovel fairy if you scan the amiibo. It doesn't effect the gameplay but it flies around and does silly or adorable things.

Also an important note is that if you are playing co-op and both players want to play as a custom knight you will need 2 shovel knight amiibos, one for each player. However, you can still play with one player as a custom knight and one not being a custom knight if you only have one amiibo.

I would have given it 5 stars if it was a necessity for co-op but since it is no longer that way I'd say it gets 4 stars. It adds some extra fun and variety to an already awesome game.

Great fun with wii U

My 9 year old and I have been playing through Shovel Knight - Wii U together. It's great fun, and makes me wish there was more co-operative platformers in this vein. With the amiibo you can assign either first or second player to be "Custom Knight" where your moves are unlocked by they amount of money you collect, rather than upgrades you would normally obtain. Your character info is saved inside the amiibo. Joining is drop-in style, but can only be done between levels. There is a wide variety of extra relics and moves appropriated from the Plague of Shadows expansion. My favorite part is the fun cosmetic costumes, with over 50 color palettes and other gimmicks to unlock. Apparently you can have both players as Custom Knight with two amiibo (!), though I have not tried this.

Other reviews have claimed there was poor paintwork on the amiibo, but mine looks great. Thank you Yacht Club Games for this fun experience.

PS: DON'T BUY THIS FOR MORE THAN MSRP ESPECIALLY FROM ANY CRIMINIALS HAVING YOUR ORDER "FULFILLED BY AMAZON" !!!! SEE ATTACHED PHOTO !!!

This toy actually got me to play the game, and the game is now one of my favorite games.

I am a New-In-Box collector, so it was extremely nice to be able to use this Amiibo while in the box.
And not only that, I've never felt that Amiibo had enough use to justify opening them, let alone using them at all, but this one is different.
This is the first time that an Amiibo felt extremely useful. To add multiplayer functionality, or to allow you to be a custom knight with all of your save data on it, is just amazing.

This is by far the best utilization of an Amiibo so far, and absolutely worth having if you're playing the game. I'm actually proud to have this because it's a little statue of an amazing experience I've had.

The way this figure interacts with the game should be the standard for amiibo functionality. It changes the game in big ways, all positive. When you level the figure up, a new relic, ability, or aesthetic change will unlock and you can switch between them freely at any time, and everything is saved to the figure. You can unlock co-op on the Wii U and use all of your Shovel Knight's gear and costumes with a pal, as well as use your custom knight across save files on 3DS and Wii U. Overall, totally awesome in appearance and sculpt quality, and even more awesome in functionality. If you like the game, and even if you think you're 'done' with Shovel Knight, this will be all you want and more. At least it was for me!
