Sabatier Cookware, Cutlery, and Utensils
Every day kitchen prep simplified with the quality and innovation of Sabatier.
With origins that date to 1810 in the Thiers region of France, the Sabatier brand represents the story of a craftsman, Philippe Sabatier, who painstakingly and meticulously crafted goods in the confines of his workshop until they brought him great recognition and fame. Renowned for the fine quality of work and a passionate attention to detail, Sabatier’s reputation for excellence quickly grew – as did his success.
Philippe authorized other members of his family, also fine craftsmen in the same region, to reproduce his knife so it could be more readily available.
For differentiation, the various members combined the name Sabatier with a logo, a letter or a word, thus constituting variations forming various brands. Those brands were progressively assigned to third parties outside the family.

I decided to review the handout that came with the product thinking maybe I had missed something and it was useless. I returned it and will get something simple and reliable.
I have a lot of uses for scales, so I have several of them. I use them for kitchen such as recipes, bulk food weight, etc. I use scales for mailing things. I also use scales for making lotions, soaps, body butters, and other skin care and makeup products. One of the difficulties I have had is that with some recipes for skin care, they are entirely done in fluid ounces, mil, gm, weight ounces, pounds. I don't always have time to translate those into other measurements. Finding this scale was a real thrill to me! It would have to be pretty nice to replace my favorite scale I use most of the time now. Let's see how it measures up.
WHAT IS THIS SCALE LIKE?
This scale for some reason looked bigger when I saw it online. If I thought it through, it would not have surprised me when I saw it. It is under 8 inches square. That is pretty small which makes it wonderful for storage. The scale itself comes with a peel off label on the window. The entire top is a stainless steel plate. The front window is plenty big enough to see, and it has a bright blue back light. There are two buttons on each side of the window. The buttons are more like rocker buttons than the type you press straight down.
The buttons are labeled with what part of the button gives you what kind of reaction. For instance the left button has the unit label on the top of the square button. If you press that, it changes the unit of measure. If you press the bottom of the button in, then you can change the temperature from C to F. The other button has a dual setting on top. You use that for setting the timer. Then the bottom of the button is for the tare or power off (you just hold it longer for the power than for the tare).
HOW IS THIS SCALE TO USE?
First of all, I want to say that I am a bit puzzled by the instructions in this box. There is absolutely no mention about the functions of the buttons. It only tells how to weigh things. It does not explain the reasons or the uses for the other features of the scale or how to use them. However, it is intuitive enough where that was not a problem for me. I just found it odd since all of the directions for things usually at least have a basic instruction for each feature.
As a scale, I found this to be very handy. I had no problem changing the settings for the different features and using them. They all were very accurate, as I checked them against a variety of different things in the house. I tested the temperature with other readings in the room and they were the same.
I tested the timer against two other timers and they were the same.
I also tested the scale in grams and ounces with my other scales (as well as pounds and kilos) and this scale was the same as both of them. I was really amazed at this, because I expected at least some variation. But there wasn't any!
I also tested it with a variety of containers and as long as it was not too big at the base, I could see the window just fine. It is best to put larger things in a bowl so that the window is still visible.
I like that this scale can be easily stored in a drawer or on its side, but due to the sensitivity of the entire top of the scale, I would suggest keeping it in the box and inner box for protection. It is also possible to find another slim box for it as well. That way the scale will be protected and accurate for time to time. If you put it flat in a drawer, keep in mind if it is not protected, that having weight on top of it will affect how accurate it is in the future as well.
THE BOTTOM LINE
A very handy scale, this one fills needs I have had when making soap, lotions, skin care and some food recipes. It not only weighs in grams, ounces, pounds and kilos, but it also weighs in mililiters and fluid ounces which is very handy for me. This scale tested out accurate compared to my other scales, and is easy to store as long as it is protected. I did not have any trouble placing items on the scale when it came to seeing the back lit window.
FIVE STARS for this scale. It is going to be my favorite for most of my applications.
These is a really nice scale. It has a huge 22 lb capacity and can weigh to the gram, or 0.1 ounce. The range is great. On the other hand, I am not certain it is truly accurate. I have two other kitchen scales and at larger weights this one measured short by 0.1 or 0.2 ounces. The other two on weight to 11 lbs and 15 lbs respectively so my test was limited by that. Really for my cooking purposes it makes no difference; the scale is close enough (assuming as I am that the other two were right). What's great I'd that you can tare the scale with a bowl on it and keep adding more ingredients. The smaller limits of the other two scales hamper your ability to do that since the tray is under pressure whether it reads zero or not--the overall capacity is unchanged. I love that I can store this on its side in an upper cabinet. It is so thin it is easy to put away, but stays nearby and won't get damaged.
The units it can measure include g, lbs, and fl oz (oz really, this is silly. From what I can tell it is based on water--one pound per pint). Aside from possible minor accuracy issues, the other minor annoyance is that it doesn't have an option to hold the weight reading in case you can't see the screen. And the screen is easy to cover up.
The scale also has a timer function if you need that. I don't but if you do i'ts handy to have.
The scale was so thin on arrival I nearly could not believe it, but this takes up very little space because it is so thin! It looks quite sleek and modern, and the design makes it very easy to wipe down too.
I am storing mine vertically in the side of my baking cabinet and it takes up precious little space. It is accurate too. I was playing around with it some at first, and later using it in meal preparation, and find it to be easy to use and accurate. While it doesn't come with a bowl, that's easy to adjust for by zero'ing the scale out. It measures in metric and English systems of measurement. It has a clock, and it even reads the temperature in Celcius or Fahrenheit.
The LED is blue and easy to read.
It came with instructions, but I didn't need them - it is very intuitive to set and use. I did notice that they have both written instructions but also pictures to make it easier for people that that might need them.
