I bought this Sony Bundle for my STR-DH590 Home theatre 5.2 system I wired the speakers to the receiver, (Don't forget to buy the wire!) turned it on and they were recognized. The thing tuned itself. I had to merely place anti vibration material under the speaker cases and tweak the controls on the back of the subwoofer.
NOTE: This bundle has a Powered Subwoofer, which is NEEDED for the 2 sub channels. You would think that info would be printed on the box or instructions, but NAY! I thought the receiver had a defect, because I tried using the 5.1 Pioneer speakers from the SX315 this system replaced. And they all worked, except of course the sub. (The Pioneer had darn good bass for an unpowered sub). I contacted Sony Customer Support. The Tech informed me that, the STR-DH590 MUST HAVE a Powered Sub. And he gave me speaker choices. In truth, I am fortunate the Pioneers' sub woofer was a no go. Were one of my friends to max the STR-DH590 volume, those 100 watt speakers would have been toast!
This Sony bundle includes: Sony SSCS8 (Center) , and the SSCS5 (Pair) of Bookshelf Speakers, rated for the peak 145 watts, and 10-Inch Active Subwoofer (which of coarse has its own power) and auto power on.
I considered other combinations, and I could not beat this price for a 5x145w plus powered sub speaker set in Sony or any other brand.
My only con is that the black speaker cases look kind of plastic-ee, when compared to some of the wood (mostly faux) grain speakers offered by other makes.
