Pre Box S2 Digital, our flagship of the S2-series. For the very first time we are using a dual mono configuration with the highest class D/A converters of ESS Sabre. Their flagship DAC-chip ensures highest class audio in a small and affordable package. This DAC is capable of high resolution audio up to 32bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512! Pre Box S2 Digital is also the our devices to support hardware MQA unfolding. It’s also the premiere of our proprietary Optimum transient digital filter and our proprietary clock circuitry design. Digital audio is the art of time, with our designed proprietary clock we have managed jitter rates of unrivalled 100 Femtoseconds, this easily outperforms many renowned and respected audiophile clock generators!

真的很小，就比烟盒大点，但做工精细，全铝外壳。电源是5V1A的，MicroUSB口，不用原配的，用充电宝都行。

Improve sound quality over Dragon Fly DAC which costs about $300 less. Better transparency, sound stage, imaging and volume control. Small foot print, easy to set up next to laptop or desktop computer. The sound is a little bit strident when hooked up to a CD player via COAX cable in a home audio setting (while listening through Sennheiser 660 S headphones). Skimpy manual.

MQA decoding

I just bought this and tried for 2 days. Audio quality set `best`, but MQA decoding turns off and on during playback almost every song different albums (bought and downloaded from e-onkyo. 44.1kHz and 96kHz) . Tried `Audirvana` and `Roon`, both having the same problem. Never happened before when I used DAC on UDP-205. That means my system (Mac mini) is okay. Do anyone have the same problem or know how to solve this? Btw. FW is v2.12.

*** Finally I figured it out.***

All my problems solved after I changed Audirvana setting from using [MQA Decoder device] to [MQA Renderer device]. No more on and off. No more click sound! In this case [MQB] with a pink dot will shown on the display. But sounds really great and released me from all the stresses.

May be I was expecting too much and let this small box decoding everything. It only cost 400 dollars after all. It decoding old albums fine but not new release like 'love' by Michael Buble, 'Voicenotes' by Charlie Puth. May be new release has too much information? I don't know. But I'm satisfied with my purchase now.

Spectacular value for the money!

I use this product in my main listening system. It replaced a product that was priced several times what this cost and had most of the same features. This product sounds much better, is more flexible, and takes up far less space than the DAC it replaced. It also has a full featured remote that the previous DAC did not. In fact, I am amazed that a product with these features and high quality can be offered at this price. I do not use it as a pre-amp. I place the volume control at full output and control the volume with a very high quality dedicated analog volume control so I haven't evaluated its use as a pre-amp. The rest of the functionality is top-notch and I highly recommend this DAC to anyone looking for one in the $400 to $2K price range. It is a real bargain!!

needs right set-up for TIDAL MQA

I bought the product to play TIDAL MQA audio and it works great! I have a iMac (27 inch, 2017, High Sierra OS) and Focal Clear headphones. However, unlike Audioquest etc., Pro-Ject's website gives almost no config info (and you can't e-mail them) so the following should help.

After a couple of tries I figured out that the S2 Digital's USB jack was for a USB 2.0 B-cable. USB 3.0 does not work. So what worked was a USB 2.0 A to B cable.

Go to TIDAL Settings. Then Streaming. Of course, choose 'Master' and in Sound chose Pre box S2. Then click on 'More Settings'. You will then have three choices: Use Exclusive Mode, Force Volume, and Pass Thru MQA. Be sure to check all three boxes. When I did all that the MQA symbol showed up on the display with a blue dot!

Sounds and works great so far. This is a great product at a great price point (even if you don't need MQA).
