I was pleasantly surprised that it does cadence measurements without needing a foot pod! After doing research on why cadence is important, I was really hoping to find this feature without needing to buy a separate foot pod, and I think that the Polar was the only one that offered it on the watch without needing a foot pod.
I had some difficulty pairing it to my phone. It took a few tries, but eventually it paired.
It does everything I want in a heart rate monitor, and more. The features are great. The interface is less cludgey than past Polar devices I've had, but you definitely need to be able to synch to Polar Flow to get much out of the M430.
The synching, when it is working, takes a *long* time both by bluetooth and cable. It seems to be transferring all data, including data that has not changed. The more you use it, the more data it has to transfer and the longer it takes. Mine takes about 5 full minutes now.
Battery life is outstanding. No complaints there.
The Polar M430 does none of that quickly or easily. The battery runs low very quickly. 3 uses and it is toast. It will not upload automatically and sync takes hours sometimes. And to get the Polar to sync, you need to open the Polar App on your phone and keep it in the foreground. Oh, and make sure you only do this at home with everything connected to a network, or it will take forever or not work at all.
You have to hold a tiny button down to get it to stop recording and/or sync for 3 seconds. Also, the rubber strap is poorly designed and difficult to put on and off.
The heart rate monitor is not accurate compared to a strap hrm.
So, don’t buy. You’re better off using a phone app. Ugh. I really dislike this thing. Waste of money.
EDIT: After approximately 30 uses it no longer charges. Into the trashcan! I won't be buying anything from Polar again.
I have had the watch for a month and Polar has had me reset the watch twice because of synchronization issues. As of right now I cannot sync the watch with my Polar Balance scale and every time it syncs with my phone it says it fails even though my training sessions do sync.
When syncing was working on my watch it was very slow over Bluetooth, especially when you compare it with a Garmin or Fitbit watch.
The watch itself is big and ugly. You wont want to wear it for anything other than training. The buttons are mushy and give no feedback. When you are training it is not possible on any of the screens to see the time of day. On the plus side the watch is light and the screen is legible. The Polar H10, and Polar Bluetooth stride sensor reliably connect to the watch and it is pretty fast to acquire GPS.
The optical heart rate sensor is not that reliable. You have to remember to clean it regularly or it will read very inaccurately.
