Steam Deck 8BitDo Sn30 Pro Review + Case that fits 4 controllers + Solution for swapped buttons

Things you should know:
- It does work for the Steam Deck on Xinput mode via Bluetooth. I got 4 of these and they all connect no problemo even at the same time
- If the face buttons XBAY being switched for PC/Switch bothers you as it does me, I got some great button stickers that work perfectly from the FlamingToast website (You can see them applied in the photo)
- I found this to be the best portable controller for the Steam Deck or just any PC/Switch needs in general. There is such a small market for portable but fully functional (and complete buttons) available out there, and after trying countless of controllers, this is where I landed. It doesn't have analog triggers, but by this point, it's the least of my worries. The fact that it's so small works for PC, Steam Deck, Switch, and Mobile, and has all the functions and buttons you need to work, it's a great device.
- It uses Type C, isn't that amazing?
- The black one is Mobile exclusive which is unfortunate as it does have some bugs with connecting to PC/Steam Deck so as much as I would have loved the black color, I had to go with this gray one. If I really wanted to change the color, there are skins available online but I guess this is fine. I love the button stickers anyways, it's also a great way to differentiate who's controllers are who's.

Travel Case I used:
"Hermitshell Hard Travel Case for Sony PS5 Playstation DualSense Wireless Controller"
- It's a miracle. It fits exactly 4 pieces of "8BitDo Sn30 Pro Controllers" even with all 4 charging cables included. I got this because I wanted a nice portable way to carry 4 controllers for when I play some local couch-coop games with my friends on the Steam Deck. I didn't like that the XBAY buttons were switched though so I just purchased some button stickers from FlamingToast and that worked great!

Best Small-Form-Factor Controller Out There

Quality is great, and it's less expensive than most 1st-party controllers. I needed a controller that can fit in my Steam Deck case and it works great. Battery life is better than expected. USB-C charging is always appreciated. Material & buttons feel good, but be aware that the triggers are non-analog, they're just buttons. The software is a great option if you want to customize control schemes, but I mostly play on PC and it's easier to use Steam Input for that. If you play on Switch a lot then it will be an indispensable feature.

I like that it has mode-switching, so you can easily swap between PC and Switch or other devices. Personally I use XInput mode for PC, but you could use the Switch mode for both PC and Switch, and swap the button layout in Steam settings if desired. Having one controller that works across all of your devices is really convenient.

8Bitdo has always had a good reputation and this has solidified it for me. If my last Steam Controller ever kicks the bucket, I'll seriously consider their new Ultimate gamepad.

I purchased the 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro Wired controller and was amazed by its quality several years ago. I decided to finally purchase the Bluetooth controller as my wired one is now beginning to glitch out every so often. (looks to be a lifespan of about 2-3 years or so now of continuous playing)

Pros: Great product and build. Very sturdy, doesn't feel cheap, and has good ergonomics in my opinion. I prefer this style of controller as it is the style I grew up with (SNES, NES era). This might not be for you if you grew up playing with the thickness of a Sega, Playstation, or XBOX controller. Bluetooth connects very well to the switch and hasn't had an issue.

Cons: Doesn't start up the switch on start-up of the controller like the wireless switch controllers do for the console. Shorthand combinations are hard to remember so have a cheat sheet nearby if you want to know the shortcuts on the controller (starting up the controller, turbos, etc.)

Compared to the wired controller, it is really good with the response time and doesn't seem to have any delayed signal which I like. Recommend purchasing either this or the wired version!

I’ve been looking to getting this controller for a while. I accidentally forgot to remove it from my cart but I’m happy I got it. The only thing that pushes my buttons is that I realized too late it doesn’t have a turbo button. But it has vibration, good travel on the sticks and the buttons all feel really nice! I mainly got this to use for my iPad, I have no trouble connecting it. However the switch is usually the one that takes the longest to connect. I’ve had several kinds of 8bitdo controllers and they all seem to be that way. But for the aesthetic, travel size and nice buttons, it was a good buy.

Works and feels really good most of the time

Product feels really high quality and the sticks are tight and feel better than my Switch ProCon. Feels great on the switch’s NES, SNES, and most 2D platforms, but I do think it’s annoying how easy it is to input a diagonal directional input when I don’t want to. It helps to play with the tips of my thumb rather by then joint of my thumb, but sometimes that feels unnatural. This has only happened once, but I recently experienced input delay while playing on the NSO’s SNES games. I fixed it by resyncing, but I’ve never had that problem with my procontrollers. Still pretty satisfied with it, but I hope they fix some of the issues I named in any future SNES type controllers! I still love this controller and sometimes catch myself trying to find any excuse to use it because it feels so nice.
