The 1000 Lumens LED Lantern with BatteryGuard stops battery drain so you have power when you need it most. READ THIS BEFORE PUTTING IN BATTERIES!

This is a great lantern if you get it correctly. I had the same problem everyone seems to have with the lid not opening once you put in the batteries. After major struggle pulling out the lid, I found out why it had gotten stuck in the first place.

The middle part sticking out from the lid that goes in the middle hole between the batteries has a tear drop shape. YOU HAVE TO ALIGN THE SHAPE when putting on the lid. If you don't align it and just stick the lid in, it will go in but you will have a hell of a time getting it out. If it's aligned you won't have a problem at all.

If you get the lid part correct it's a great lantern. I like that it has multiple light settings and that the brightest setting is bright but doesn't blind you.

Seems very sturdy too, because I had to yank the lid open with the help of a couple screw drivers when it first got stuck and it didn't break haha.

I've bought this lantern as well as LE Lantern, which is rated at 1000 lumen as well, for my camping trip. After using both lanterns for a week, I like this one much better than LE. First of all, I like warmer light it produces, it looks more natural. It doesn't blind as much if you look directly at the lantern in complete darkness of a camping site - probably because of better light dissipation with a very uniform brightness across all the surface.
I really like the location of the power switch at the top of the lantern. It is very easy to find even in complete darkness and turn the lantern on. Also, the rotary design of the power switch makes it very easy to set desired brightness/mode. It is better than regular power buttons.
Having batteries completely disconnected while the lantern is turned off makes it perfect for storage till the next summer. For example, for LE lantern, I had to cut out a cardboard insert to disconnect batteries from the lantern and prevent draining the batteries over time.
And, last of all, I like the build quality and look of the lantern. Also, it has a perfect size - not too small, and not too large. I highly recommend this lantern.

Bought this lantern, put 4 brand new batteries in (according to manufacturer directions) and couldn't get the bottom on. Tried to take it off to see what the problem was and couldn't get the bottom off. Returned the lantern with my batteries. Amazon sent a replacement lantern. Second lantern same problem. Again, I lost 4 new batteries. Amazon said they would refund the money and replace my 8 batteries. Still waiting.

This light was not working and defective right out of the box. The third (Brightest) position on the switch did not work at all. It was easy to install batteries but then almost impossible to remove the battery cover which was stuck on in spite of going on without difficulty. Overall the lantern seemed cheaply made and not up to the previous quality I was used to from the Coleman brand. I have purchased an alternative with slightly lesser brightness capability. Otherwise, the size and light weight were positive features.

Like another reviewer, I got one that had an issue with the second and third brightness levels not working. This was an Amazon Warehouse deal, so it's partly Amazon's fault for not properly testing merchandise before sending back out. After returning it and getting a new one, I have to say I am impressed.

The thing I like the most is the way the light is emitted from the lantern. My gripe with a lot of these LED lanterns is that either the LEDs are placed at the base of the globe or are not diffused enough to cast an evenly diffused, soft light. Coleman has solved both these issues with a thick frosted diffuser and by placing the LEDs near the top of the lantern. Also, the light quality is a pleasing soft white (like a light bulb) instead of a harsh bluish-white. This may not be the best choice if you need a lantern that will go for several weeks on one set of batteries, but It will be adequate for a several-night camping trip.
