This is a very good center channel speaker, but I can only give it four stars because it arrived in this condition as soon as I opened the package. The external packaging had no damage, so it appears to have been damaged before being shipped. The quality control before shipment needs to be improved.

Let me start by saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with this speaker. I was trying to replace a Definitive Technology clr 3000. I thought for sure a new, THX certified, 3 way speaker would sound significantly better than a 20 year old speaker. I was wrong. There was no discernable improvement in sound. Actually, I'd say the Monolith sounded "thinner" than the Def Tech. Granted, the Def Tech has a built in, powered 10 in subwoofer in it, but the bass isn't what I didn't like. There just wasn't any improvement and $475 is a lot of money to spend for zero improvement. It looks like it's back to the drawing board on finding an upgrade for what I already have. If you don't already have a great center channel, this speaker will probably more than suffice. It's built well, looks good, came boxed well and has a magnetic grill. There are plenty of good attributes. I just couldn't see spending this amount of money just to get equal, or possibly lesser quality than I already had. I returned it. I'm going to have to spend significantly more money to get an improvement. Oh, well. It is what it is. It was worth a shot, and now I know. I hope this helps someone.

Love the smoothness of the speaker after Dirac room correction. Would love to have more systems encompassing a full suite of these. Thank you monoprice for making the monolith pieces available at a great price!!!

Packed well, yet minimally, in a non-obvious box. Easy to connect. Took only seconds. Pulled the pin-plugs out of my old center, then unscrewed the new posts, inserted the pin-plugs, screwed down the new posts, and instant sound. Now I just need to make room for it in my open-front equipment cabinet under the TV. After a first evening with it (Star Trek:Lower Decks), the sound already seems to mesh well with my other 5.1 speakers (smaller model Monoprices). I'll still tinker with the crossover fade later, but so far so good. Got this new center to improve dialog clarity and it seems nice and clear after the first evening.
