Right out of the box the tablet was already fully charged. All the instructions you need are on the removable shield. Just peal it off and follow the instructions and you're all set. With all the updates it does I was up and running in less than an hour. Then I started adding all my favorite apps and that took a bit longer.
For my wife & me, this is a perfet tablet. We're not playing games, just using it for e-mails, Facebook and some web surfing. And it does all of that. The camera takes amazingly good pictures and videos. The FM radio is a nice extra. When the quarantine ends we hope to take it on a road trip with us.
All in all, this is a great tablet that's easy to set up and use. In my opinion, it is better than either Apple's ipad or anything Samsung may sell and is priced about half of either one. I highly recommend this tablet!
On top of all of this, since it is equipped with the most recent Android OS (9.0), I was able to sync up multiple email addresses and my phone with the device for a quick and easy setup, less than 20 minutes total. The WiFi connectivity has been great and best of all, no mobile account needed to use it.
With the coronavirus causing many people to adapt to distance learning, I highly recommend one of these units!
The S30 does everything I need it to do which is basically social media apps and watching YouTube videos for working on cars or motorcycles as well as searching for and ordering parts. The built in speakers are good for watching video and OK for playing music but I usually use an external bluetooth speaker for better performance. That's typical of any tablet I've ever used. The screen is crisp and clear and the apps open quick and I haven't had any issues with crashing.
Very happy this tablet so far. Just waiting on VANKYO to come out with a case for it.
1) Follow through on an initial product interaction.
2) For a manufacturer defect claim.
3) For damage processing (i.e., child-inflicted).
Every interaction has been fantastic. Each was handled by a different individual and each of those folks made it clear that support was their top priority. If I could give them a sixth star, I would. The amount of courtesy, response and, ultimately, getting what I request *or better* for the very low cost of these tablets seems disproportionate. If you are in the market for an entry level tablet with a ton of bang for the buck, Vankyo has hit the sweet spot AND provides customer support well above the price point.
I needed a tablet for basic stuff - I have a powerful PC for heavy lifting - and I wasn't interested in spending $400 (or more) on a high-end tablet. But I also didn't want to find myself frustrated with loading times or the occasional casual game slow-down. I was trying to find the nexus of quality, performance, and price for myself and for my kids (so I also had to consider price X 4 as a big factor!) This Vankyo S30 seems to fit that profile perfectly.
For $139 (there was a $10 coupon on top of the $149 list price) the solidity of the case (although largely plastic) is excellent and has a satisfying tactile quality. The beveled extremes of the glass and firm press of the side buttons give it an up-market feel. Even the AC plug has a solidity and weight to it. The screen is very bright and clear indoors with nice crisp lines and great contrast. It comes with a very lean Android 9.0 install which is appreciated (I've moved the family away from the Fire line specifically for reasons of bloat).
Once I got Amazon Appstore on there I went through my libraries on that and Play and pulled down some test games in both 2D and 3D. The 3D makes it evident this is not a high-performance table but it is absolutely serviceable; nothing was slow enough to prevent playing. High-speed 2D games are a non-issue and it brushes these off easily. Downloads (over 5Ghz Wifi) and loading times are very quick compared with our 2016/2017 era tablets and context switching back and forth among different apps presents minimal lag. Touch response is very good; equal to or better than any other Android I've used. It uses USB-C rather than micro for power and wired connection but I'll have to come back for an update as not enough data: I expect both should be improved, if they aren't I'll add to the review.
There are cheaper tablets out there (although not by a whole heck of a lot) and there are faster tablets out there (for a good bit more money), but I expect Vankyo has found a real market sweet-spot with the S30.
Cons: Because it isn't literally perfect I feel obligated to note my concerns. Its on-paper specs are impressive but it does not perform at $400+ tablet levels. This is completely expected, but noteworthy because it's spec sheet is so grand. On paper it only recognizes 128GB of SD card. That's all we have anyway so I can't test further. That seems a strange limit given newer configuration and Android OS where many tablets recognize 256GB and 512GB. Also it will be limited on accessories given that it's a lesser known brand; cases and glass protectors may have to be purchased by size or require some finagling to fit. I've read complaints about audio quality and screen breightness in the sun. The S30 has an 1/8" headphone jack and Bluetooth support (obviously): those ought to cover audio for everyone. As for the sun? The sun's bright, tablets only have so much 1) battery and 2) light capacity. I've never met a tablet of any brand or OS that does either of these things well. For $150 I'm certainly not pulling score for either of those concerns.
