Functional, water-resistant, floats, accurate, relatively stable, protective housing, luminescent and fair price.
Use as a bearing compass and backup heading compass.
Allows reading a bearing while being gently pitched, rolled. Scale is in 1* increments. Under flat conditions easy to read down to the 1*. Dial settles down to a stable reading relatively quick. As a person needing 1.25 reader I found no issue with seeing the readings without the readers. Easy to read scale in the daylight while wearing polarized sunglasses. Luminescent "greenish" color allows for easy night sightings without killing your night vision. No batteries required:). Worst case situation would be a short exposure to a light source to recharge the luminous dial.
More or less floats on the surface of freshwater with no obvious moisture intrusion. Did not note any IPX rating on the packaging(long gone in the trash). Soft rubbery like housing allows for secure grip with bare wet hands or lightly gloved hands. Housing material should provide some protection from the eventual drop and the every day bumps. Neck lanyard and light weight should reduce drops and allow for all day wear. Housing should protect the unit from swing bumps.
Accuracy checked against an older Silvia Ranger type15 and Garmin GPSMaps 78sc. Prism (hand bearing sighting) view is in degrees only. 1* increments. Viewed from above you have the degrees in 30* numerical with 5* marks and the cardinal points.
Personal preference for "cheek" style vs. "arm" style of bearing compass. 5-year warranty from an established(+50 years), reputable company. Good real world history of reliablility and function.
