Very good sound, a little on the "mid-bassy" side that bleeds into the upper-bass and lower-mids especially with headphones that are bassy to begin with, with a softer, smoother midrange, giving kind of a big relaxed sound; the treble really shines, and has a very powerful, rich and detailed. I can hear several layers of vocals and instruments in songs than a typical headphone output, and in some ways it beats more expensive DACs that I've purchased, especially considering the price. And it especially came as a surprise, considering I only wanted to have something just "decent" enough to replace the noisy headphone jack from my TV. Its stereo capabilities is very wide, deep, 3D sounding; you can hear new layers of instruments in a recording that are inaudible coming from most outputs. I would describe it like hearing the music coming from a guitar amp, or more from a live setting, maybe even an old Japanese stereo. Unlike, other optical dacs, this one has a volume knob, which is also very solid feeling, so that's a plus, however, you always have to physically adjust it to increase/decrease the volume, and cannot via digitally, or with a remote the device it's connected to, but at least the adjustment is given compared others not having a volume control at all. I believe the DAC chip inside is a Relmon MS8413 from some research.
NOTE!: It gets loud, so make sure the knob is all the way down before playing anything, then adjust it slowly.
