Seemed to work fine initially, but I discovered that if the link transitioned from UP to DOWN (i.e. if the cable were unplugged, or with the linux command `ip link set down`) my CPU would log a hardware error and panic.
Another issue is the presence of this card in my Asus Prime Z690-P Wifi D4 motherboard would cause the boot to take several additional seconds.
QNAP does not show any firmware updates on this support site. Guess I'll have to try some other hardware. Probably should have just insisted on authentic Intel NIC in the first place.
Update: Intel engineers confirmed that locking up the bus when the link state changes is a known flaw of some revisions of the i225 chipset, so at least I'm not crazy.
