Regarding short battery life problem...

I bought a couple of these to put in my luggage but so far have been only activated and using only one on my keys for about 3 months just to see how it works out.

I, like many others had received low battery warning on my phone for the tag after about 2 weeks of activating it. So I thought okay, I guess it came with a low battery so I bought a 10 pack of Panasonic cr2032 batteries and put one in. I also bought a CBT-1 Pulse load battery tester that tested the cr2032 battery, among many others for my general use around the home.

Anyway after about 3 weeks of putting in the new battery I got the low battery warning again. Odd, I thought, so I opened up the tag, removed the battery and ran three tests on the battery with my pulse load battery tester and all three times it came back at 90% capacity.

So, I pressed the button on the tag (with the battery removed) and it made a tiny little beep then I put the battery back in. After the tag reconnected to my phone it showed the battery as sufficient (16-100%) according to the app.

It's been fine for about 4 weeks now and today I got a low battery warning again. So I did the same thing I did before. I removed the battery, put it on my load tester three times, and all three times it showed the capacity at 80%. So I pressed the button on the tag with the battery removed, it made a little beep, then I put the battery back in and now the app is reporting sufficient battery again.

So basically it seems it may be a software, or a hardware bug, or limitation in the tag's hardware that prevents it from determining the correct battery level and gives you a false warning that the battery is low when it probably isn't (if you put a new battery in). In my case anyway.

Tracker for cars and luggage

People seem to be confused by the range. Technically these will work on the other side of the world along as someone with a galaxy phone passes within a few hundred feet you will receive an update on the location. So if you lose your luggage in an airport with thousands of cell phone users than you should get a location of your luggage even if you are thousands of miles away.
I use this to track my vehicle. Sometimes it goes several hours without updating. My guess is there is either no galaxy users passing by (somewhat unlikely in the city) or because my vehicle is parked for days at a time it just stops updating because the vehicle isn't moving.
There are many uses for the smart tag but as far as tracking a vehicle (you are worried about it getting stolen etc) or placing in your luggage I would recommend trying these especially since there is no monthly subscription like on a actual GPS tracker. Those GPS trackers also lose battery power in a day or 2 and they do not transmit well in airports.

Finally - a luggage tracker for Android users!

I needed a tracker for luggage (just like the apple tag) but for Android. I tried a couple no-name brands and then a Tile; none had the ability to report on the tag location when it was far away from my phone. I bought the Samsung SmartTag+ yesterday and it passed my testing with flying colors! I first tested by using it to track my daughter driving 30 miles away along with her Samsung phone. The tracker reported periodic observations along her route as well as the final destination which she was at for 20 minutes. It doesn't report the complete route which I didn't expect for a device without a monthly subscription. The 2nd test was a trip to the local store without my phone. The tracker was detected by other people in the store and was reported back to me when I returned to my phone. I also like that the tracker can be opened and the battery replaced. A great product without a subscription!

Battery Life

Received this product on 4 May 22. Setup was very easy. The device battery status read fully charged. I connected to the tag this afternoon 7 May and the battery status read half charge. Reading on the Samsung site, the battery should last nearly a year. It's been 3 days and burned 1/2 the battery. I've only connected to the tag a few times. The tag works great and the app is easy to use the only problem is the battery life.

Update No. 1 - 14 May 22 received low battery notification time to replace. I replaced the battery, fingers cross this on last more than 10 days.

Update No. 2 - 10 Jun 22 just received low battery notification time to replace. The brand new replacement battery lasted a whopping 27 days.

Update No. 3 - 12 Jun 22, I opened the tag and noticed that the battery wasn't seated in place. I took the battery out, pushed the button and waited 10 minutes prior to reinstalling the same battery. I made sure the battery was completely seated in position and put the back on. I checked the battery status in the smart thing app, status full green, only 2% used. I found the battery hard to seat properly. It didn't want to fully click in place. Hopefully, this was the reason for the battery life problem.
