Monitor has been troublesome

I bought a 6k BMPCC about a year ago and absolutely love it. My main issues were not being able to tilt the LCD screen and the battery life. When I read about the Pro fixing both of these problems, I decided to get one.

The monitor has been troublesome from the beginning. When I send the camera feed to another device via HDMI, it pulls through the zebra lines and focus assist. My BMPCC 6k does not do this, but the Pro does. And even when I turn them off, it sometimes continues to pull them through. I basically have to toggle those individual features on and off, as well as the 'clean feed' button until they stop being pulled through the HDMI. It feels almost random as to whether or not they are being pulled through.

In addition, the LCD screen is not even close to showing me what I'm recording. I know all monitors are different, but this is ridiculous. What is actually correct in my recordings looks completely over exposed on the screen. I know it's not because of the histogram, but it looks terrible and makes it very hard to focus and frame the shot correctly. Again, my BMPCC 6k does not have this issue. I actually get that camera set first, then just mimic the iso/shutter settings on the 6k pro because I feel like I'm shooting a bit blind on that camera.

I've read many other people have had issues with the monitor too. They seem to have a wide range of issues though. I would love this camera otherwise, but until they fix it, I can't recommend buying one.

I've been looking for a video camera that can run all day without overheating and I don't need autofocus just auto exposure. This fits the bill. Color correction in post is much easier and uniform. I love the dual mic inputs I use them even though it's overkill.

I record on a 2TB ssd (T5) at the lowest quality 4k and it's still stunning footage. I replaced both my old cameras now after getting a second bmd 6k pro. I just use canon dslr lenses and it's fine.

Watch out for auto exposure on the iris, most dslr lenses will click noticeably to the next aperture on camera and that looks bad. I notice the shutter angle/speed does that too but it's not as bad... I wonder if that can be fixed in the settings?

I bought this to use as a center camera for multi-camera videos. It's large and stays on a tripod most of the time. The LCD touchscreen is very bright and the menu system is well organized. I record to an external Samsung T5 via the USB C connector. The camera can record in Blackmagic Raw which works very well in Davinci Resolve. I can edit directly from the T5 without copying the large raw files to my computer. I put a SmallRig cage around it so I can attach accessories. I use an external F970 battery on a small plate to power it via the 12V lemo connector.

There are a few things that I miss that my camcorders have: continuous auto-focus and face recognition; electronic zoom - my Canon lens doesn't support that; one hand operation. The 6K Pro is not a direct replacement but is very good at what it does. There's a good app for iOS called Bluetooth+ that duplicates the camera menu on an iPad so you can make adjustments without touching the camera while recording.

This camera is so perfect I almost don’t believe it’s real. Really the only thing that I don’t like about it is that you have to buy all these other things for it. i’ve been having the same camera for six years and this is my first time upgrading and it was well worth it.
