Once I got then set up I "tested" these out on some Indian songs, Adele and U2 which I have listened to many times for years. Once I heard them it was like a whole new world opened up and I Iiterally started to tear up. Personally prefer a ceramic sounding vocals so these had my name on them. Bass was smooth and even, not intrusive. High end was somewhat shiny but after I adjusted the treble on my tuner, it was more natural to me. I ran them thru a ~ $300 reciever Onkyo TXSR353, nothing fancy.

RP-600M I vs RP-600M II
====================

AB comparison with calibration/EQ disabled. X-over set to 80hz but sub disabled, to narrow differences down to my use case. Tested both music and movies at medium volume.

On axis listening. Very obvious tonal difference. Vocals are flat, almost muffled sounding on the V2 compared to the V1 in my acoustically awful room. Music sounds much more lively on the V1. The V1 definitely has more treble. So first impression was my family and I liked the V1 more, but I think this is misleading because the difference is corrected after EQ. The V2 could very well be more accurate, and we simply like the effectively boosted highs on the V1 (we like our EQ to resemble a smile as many other people do).

Off axis listening. This is important to me because I use the 600M for my center (and LCR, surrounds, rears), and is the main reason I'm trying the V2 with its larger horn. Tonal difference is still there of course. But my entire family agreed the V2 is slightly clearer and easier to understand vocals during movies. The V1 sounds a little more hollow end echoey and difficult to understand, especially after 30 degrees from center.

So my first impression after listening for about an hour is, the V2 isn't really much better than the V1 for on axis listening. But the V2 is slightly better for more extreme off axis listening.

So I'm replacing my V1 center with the V2, and plan on replacing my mains the next time the V2 go back on sale. I'll continue using V1's for my surrounds and rears. Holler if anybody wants my V1's.
