1) The attachments do not have a physical fastener to keep them in place. They rely on friction, which is OK if you're pushing the vac away from you, but if you're pulling it towards you the attachments are pulled off. The vacs' great suction works against the friction holding the attachment on. My Hoover cordless hand vac had this feature. This is really poor engineering from DeWalt.
2) The HEPA filter is nice, but it would be much better if there were a washable foam pre-filter that protected the HEPA filter. My corded Shark vac uses that arrangement and it works great. You wash the foam filter monthly and replace the HEPA filter every 3 years. This is poor engineering from DeWalt.
3) The dust bucket should have a hinged release on its bottom so you don't have remove it and the filter to empty it. My Hoover cordless hand vac had this feature. This is poor engineering from DeWalt.
4) At this price point, the vac should have a motorized brush attachment.
All in all, I'm OK with my purchase, but DeWalt clearly missed the boat on several features that their competition did not.
Add a carpet-friendly carpet nozzle, even without the carpet beater, and this would beat my $400 Tineco hands down for value. Anyway...
On first try -barely 5 minutes, I'd like to call out TO THE DEWALT FOLKS* that, as with so many low priced stick vacs, nothing much really holds either end of the straight extension to the vacuum nor to the attachment. Really there needs to be either some sort of friction detent if not a clip you push to release to disconnect. The vacuum unit comes loose from the attachments.
Notes for potential buyers-
1- Powerful suction
2- Easy for a wheelchair guy like me to handle
3- Overall very practical, efficient design
4- Apparent DeWalt quality construction
5- The well-placed light with the time-delay shutoff is a plus
6- Battery capacity is never an issue for us DeWalt fans, as we can always just swap out the battery. Beats other brands with integral or unique proprietary batteries that are hard to find. I use 6 AH, but I bet 2 of the lighter 2AH size would be perfect. Dewalt tools never cease to amaze me how long they run strongly on even a 2AH size battery.
1- Have some packaging or duct tape handy to keep the above-mentioned straight extension in place unless you smush the tube and attachments on very tightly.
3- Edit** - straight piece appears just the right length for everybody.
4- THIS IS NOT FOR CARPETS! For flat hard surfaces only, plus whatever the included little brushes, crevice tools and the end of the hose and extension will work on. I tried it on the carpet, and it just sucks down and becomes immoveable in carpets, so don't count on carpet vacuuming at all.
5- The swiveling floor nozzle is a minor annoyance, it is spring loaded to default positioned almost perpendicular to the floor. Not an issue at all once you start vacuuming. Great for under beds though, I guess.
*DeWalt folks -
I bought this for my garage and possible shop floors. I'd have prefered, and would have been happy to pay more for, a version identical to but with:
1- Double length or bigger dirt cup
2- Double length or bigger filter size
3- Double length or bigger baffled dirt cup inlet. just extend the attachment tube as much and it should accommodate it easily, use less power, and require less frequent emptyings.
4- positive latches affixing all extensions and attachments
5- Less flexible floor nozzle with far less unnecessary range - especially in the noxxle-down position and a simpler more forgiving arrangement than that little pleated flexible section... looks like a headache to open up when it rally gets stuffed up.
6- (September 25, 2022 Edit) -Translucent pleated hose and plastics where the dirt enters the cannister so that clogs are easier to see and clean.
Bigger dirt cup/baffle so I can use it in my dirty dusty farm tractor storage garage and basement floor so the puny filter cup intake won't be a choke point all the time making me stop and think each time if I can pick up the stray bottle safety seal, catchup package, cat hair ball and the like without having to stop and dismantle the dirt cup. Also the little pleated hose in the otherwise nicely pivoting and flexible floor nozzle looks like it's designed to stuff up a dozen times a year for my use.
What on earth I'll ever use the flexible hose for, I can hardly imagine. Ditch that and give us a tube that stays on.
** Edited September 22, 2022 1:45 PM after filling it up with my first tank full including spider web globs and assorted things that amazingly haven't stuffed up yet!
Edited September 25, 2022 after about 5 more tank fulls of dirt, it stuffed up 4 more times at various points, all while using the solid floor nozzle, but the dirt I was vacuuming was rather chunky - as shop floor dirt often is, so yes, a larger pleated hose area and perhaps a larger internal dirt baffle entry area would be an improvement.
Comes with a storage bag and a few convenient accessories…. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase… I have a Milwaukee backpack vac and it been great but this is its replacement..
-Takes DeWalt batteries
-Very powerful, strong suction
-Easy to empty
-Great attachments, versatile, modular
-Eats through batteries fast. For occasional spot use a 5Ah will work, nothing smaller. For lots of cleaning a 9Ah or 12Ah is needed.
-Loud, especially in tight spaces, I use ear pro.
